The Philippines is a country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. An archipelago comprising 7,107 islands, the Philippines has the 5th longest coastline in the world. The islands are categorized broadly into three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city is Manila.

Tulipomania

The tulip has come to be a loved symbol of the Netherlands. Many tourists visit the country just to see the bright coloured flower and the astonishing view over the bulb fields.

Tulip mania or tulipomania was a period in the Dutch Golden Age during which contract prices for bulbs of the recently introduced tulip reached extraordinarily high levels and then suddenly collapsed. At the peak of tulip mania in February 1637, some varieties could cost more than an Amsterdam house at that time.

Elk of Norway

Elk is the largest existing deer of Europe and Asia resembling but not so large as the moose of North America. The elk is the largest type of deer, sometimes two metres (6.5 feet) high at the shoulder and with big, flattened antlers.



There is a famous traffic sign, unique to Norway, picturing an elk framed by a red triangle to warn people of the danger. This traffic sign is so popular among tourists as well as Norwegians that it is actually possible to buy copies of it...

Kinkakuji

Kinkaku-ji (Temple of the Golden Pavilion) is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. The Golden Pavilion, or Kinkaku, is a three-story building on the grounds of the Rokuon-ji temple complex. The top two stories of the pavilion are covered with pure gold leaf. The pavilion functions as a shariden, housing relics of the Buddha (Buddha's Ashes). The Golden Pavilion is set in a magnificent Japanese strolling garden. The pond in front of it is called Mirror Pond. There are many islands and stones on the pond that represent the Buddhist creation story.
