Kia Ora
The handmade wooden bookmark with a kiwi bird from New Zealand. Thanks to Cathie ;)

Kia ora is a Māori language greeting which has entered New Zealand English. It means literally "be well/healthy" and is translated as an informal "hi". The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage website NZ History lists it as one of 100 Māori words every New Zealander should know, with a definition "Hi!, G'day!.
Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand. At around the size of a domestic chicken, kiwi lay the largest egg in relation to their body size of any species of bird in the world.
The kiwi is a national symbol of New Zealand – indeed, the association is so strong that the term Kiwi is used, all over the world, as the colloquial demonym for New Zealanders.

Happy Easter!
The wooden bookmark with a cock from Lithuania.

You'd better don't look up for the meaning of the word 'cock' in Google. Weird... it's very far from the Easter theme;)
Anyway, Happy Easter!!! Do you celebrate? and how? Feel free to leave your comments in my blog.
By the way, we have decorated eggs for Easter - margučiai:

Ladybug
The wooden bookmark with a ladybug from Malaysia.

Ladybugs are small insects, belonging to the family of beetles. It is said that the name ‘Ladybug’ was kept after Mother Mary, also associated as ‘Our Lady’.
While eating, ladybugs chew from side to side and not up and down like humans.
Ladybugs produce a chemical substance that smells and tastes horrible. It prevents them from predators and birds.
The spots on the body of the ladybug fade, as it gets older.
In winters, ladybugs do not eat and survive on their stored fat.
In many countries, like Iran and Switzerland, ladybugs are considered auspicious and symbols of good luck.
Ladybugs are found in many colors. Some have spots, while some do not.
Ladybugs even use their feet to smell.

Seahorse
The wooden bookmark with the plastic seahorse from Portugal.

Seahorse differ from other fish, it has a head like a horse, a tail like a monkey, a pouch like a kangaroo and the eyes resemble a chameleon's.
Seahorses have a single mate for life. Every morning, they come together, dance, change their color, twirl around with linked tails and then separate for the rest of the day. Isn't this romantic?;) While mating, seahorses utter musical sounds. Mating is usually done under a full moon.
Seahorses are the only animals in the entire animal kingdom in which the male has babies. The female seahorse deposits the eggs into the male's small pouch, these eggs are then fertilized by the male.
